Get to the maasai mara at the right time of the year you will be treated to great migration of millions of wilderbeest. this movement of the herbivores is immense, over two million animals migrate from the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania to the Maasai Mara National Reserve in Kenya during July through to October. They come here to get greener pastures, they arive when the pastures are gree and human height and by the time they are migrating back thet grass is all consumed and a ankle height. The migration has to cross the Mara River in the Maasai Mara where crocodiles will prey on them. This is one of the highlights as the animals try and cross the Mara River alive. In the Maasai Mara they will be hunted, stalked, and run down by the larger carnivores. The Maasai Mara also has one of the largest densities of lion in the world and is no wonder this is the home of the BBC wildlife channels Big Cat Diary.
7.15a.m. Pick from your hotel and proceed to meet other group members then depart for the Masai Mara Game Reserve, stopping at the view-point of the Great Rift Valley and at Narok town for lunch and re-fuelling. Arrive in time for an evening game drive in this world famous reserve, owing to its high animal concentration and abundance and its yearly seasonal migration of wildebeest and zebra. In the evening return to the campsite or Mara Sopa Lodge for dinner and overnight.
After breakfast, taking a picnic lunch with you proceed to spend the day tracking game with your guide. The Mara is magical in the morning: the birds are singing, the morning air smells fresh and cool, and the wildlife is just waking up to greet the day. Zebra’s frolic and greet each other, a pair of jackals prance through the grass in search of mice or a rabbit. Baboons charter noisily and giraffe watch you as they nibble on their breakfast of acacia leaves. You may even come across a family feeding together on last night’s kill, or a leopard snoozing on a tree. Break for your picnic lunch at the hippo pool and in the evening return to the campsite or Mara Sopa Lodge for dinner and overnight.
Early morning pre-breakfast game drive during which all the big five may be seen namely elephant, buffalo and lion; the sighting of rhino and leopard which make the total five is chance dependent as they are few in number, very shy and elusive though the guides have excellent game finding skills. After breakfast, taking a picnic lunch with you, depart the Mara region for Nakuru, arriving in the evening. Dinner and overnight at a budget class hotel or Lake Nakuru Lodge.
